my media product uses codes and convection's by :
1. Colours: I used different colors. My audience for my music magazine was teenagers aged 12-15. The main colours I used were pinks, red, yellows, purples and blues. I choose these colours for my magazine because there the colours which a teenage girl likes therefore they would see these colours and hopefully pick the magazine up, read some of the information on the front and then buy my magazine.
2. Pictures: The picture I used were close up picture and far away pictures. I did this because if you use loads of close up picture, then the girls will get feed up off this and may make them not buy the magazine. I also used far away pictures so that girls can see how I have dressed my model in my magazine and therefore copy the clothing. This attracts girls.
3.Layout: My layout was very wide and I didn't cram it all in one space. This looks so much better and for a teenage girl if I crammed it all in then they wouldn't be able to read the interesting stories on the front cover and therefore they would loose interest in the magazine making them not buy it. When I was choosing where to place my information and pictures I thought about it carefully. I had to think about where to place the pictures so all the pictures were apart and not together. I also had to think about what colours went were and how to attract my audience. This was not easy!
4. Bar code: I placed my bar code in the bottom right hand corner. I did this because every magazine needs a bar code on it and i didn't want to make my bar code been seen. I did this as I have placed the price above my bar code. If I made my bar code big then the bar code would stand out making my audience see this could mean that the price is too much for mean or their parent making them not buy the magazine.
When I was making my magazine I went against the codes and conventions. I went against them because you would normally find loads of information about whats in the magazine on the front cover, whereas I didn't do that. I put information on the front cover but didn't cram loads on the page. This looks much better and my audience will be able to see the picture and information quicker. I also used my picture on the front cover as the center of attention. I did this as teenage girls like to see who my model is and copy her by doing the same hair, or buying the same clothes.
2. How does your media product represent particular social groups ?
There is 3 groups which represent particular social groups. These 3 groups are pop people, teenagers and females.
It represents pop people by using stars who are pop singers. I have used Beyonce, Ellie Goulding, Kate Perry and Jason Derulo, James Arthur, One Direction, Mcbusted and Justin Bieber. By using these people the people who are interested in pop will like these singers therefore hopefully buy the magazine to read information or facts about them.
The second group female. I represented females by many things. The first thing is colour. I have used girly colours such as pinks, purple, reds ect. Most girls wear pinks or purples. I have also represents females by how pretty the model is. If you have a pretty model who stands out then females will buy the magazine as they want to look like the pretty model.
The last group is teenagers. I have represented teenagers by two things. The first thing is I have used simple wording. By using simple wording this means teenagers will be able to read the writing. If the wording was to hard to read the teenager would simply pick another magazine which they could read as they wouldn't want anyone reading it to them. I have also represented teenagers by saying something about an Iphone. Every teenager wants or has an Iphone. By doing this the ones who don't have an iPhone will want one so by buying the magazine they are in a chance to get a iPhone. I have also used the latest iPhone which is the 5c.
3. what kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why ?
Having done a lot of research, I think the best distribute for my music magazine would be Egmont UK. I have chosen Egmont as it is the biggest company who publish comics and magazine for teenagers. This would be brilliant as my audience for my music magazine is 12-15 year old (teenagers). Although I have picked this distribute, I would be happy to get a smaller distributor to also publish my magazine as it is a new magazine on the market and not many people will have heard of it before. So overall a big or small distribute could publish my music magazine for my audience. Once My distribute was finished publishing my magazine then I would hope to see them in big places such as hmv, which is a music shop and also big supermarkets.
4. Who would be the audience of your media product ?
My target Audience for my music magazine is age 12- 15 (teenagers). I gather that girls would mostly read the magazine but I guess boys could read it too.
You can tell it is for this age range as I haven't used difficult words, I've used simple words which they would be able to read. If I used too difficult words then they simply wouldn't be able to read it, making them not buy the magazine and to more then likely pick something else. You can also tell more girls than boys would read it firstly by the Images. Girls would look at these image and want to copy it in some way, either by dressing the same or trying to look the same. I have used close up shots of my sister and also used further away picture of my sister. Also the colors give it away that it aimed at girls by the colors. I've used pinks, purples and reds.
5. How did you attract/ address your audience ?
I have attract/ address my audience in many different ways. The first way I have attracted/ address my audience is by the wording. I have simply kept the wording simple for the younger people to be able to read it. If I used difficult wording then the my audience simply wouldn't be able to read it, maybe meaning they would pick another magazine which they could read. I have also took a lot of time in what wording I've pick. I had to used wording which was simple but also catchy so they would see it and want to read more. This was very hard but hopefully I have done it and if this magazine was to ever go on sale then people would want to buy it.
Another way I have attracted/ address my audience is by the colours. I have chosen the colours pinks, purples and reds. These are girly colors and if they saw it on a shelf then it would attract them straight away and most girls that ages like pinks, purples and reds. I haven't picked too many colors to work with and I've just used a few colors to keep it simple but used enough colors to attract my audience.
Finally I have attracted/address my audience by the price. The price for my magazine is £2.85. This isn't dear for a magazine but also is not cheap for a magazine. Most magazines are priced around the £3.00 mark. I have chosen to pick £2.85 as my audience won't be working therefore they will have no money. The only money they will have is pocket money and that's if they get pocket money. So therefore I've lowed my price at the lower end so teenagers will be able to buy the magazine or ask they parents to buy the magazine for them.
6. what have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product ?
This is my hp laptop I used. I used this laptop at home and used a computer at college to do my work on. I mostly used this laptop as I knew what I was doing therefore found it easier to do.
I used this memory stick to transfer work from the computer at college to my laptop at home. I would either used this memory stick or just upload it straight to blogger.
I created this blogger to post all my work on, as well as my final piece and my evaluation. It also lets the examiner, my course tutor and class mates see my work easy.
I used photo shop to edit my photos. I also used photo to add things to the photos, such as lighting and words. Once I was happy with the photos I would then us then for my final magazine.
This is my Ipad mini, where I took the photos of my sister. I also used my Iphone to take photos too. I then uploaded them to my laptop and edited them.
This is Microsoft publisher where I added wording and photos on to make my final magazine. I used Microsoft publisher as I knew a a lot about it and found it easy to use.
Overall I have learnt a lot about technologies throughout my work. I have learnt how to us photo shop which I hadn't used probably before. I also learnt how to add things to an image and also how to take things out of an image. I've added lightening to some of my picture to make it look better. I had never used blogger before so this was a new experience. I also learnt to take many photos and not just the one and play around with my photos. I took hours deciding where to take my photos to then take them to then edit them.
7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product ?
The main thing I have learnt in the progression from my preliminary task to the full product is editing. I didn't do much editing in my preliminary task probably because I had not had a mess around with it and learnt how to do things probably on it. Since my preliminary task and my full product I have spent hours on photo shop editing things out one photo and adding things to the same photo. I have also learnt how to change the picture to make it darker or lighter and also how to add a shadows or a glow to it. For example I took my main picture on my double make spread and edited the background, I then changed the colour of the background making it lighter and finally adding a glow to my model to make her stand out more.
Another thing I have learnt since my preliminary task and my full product is what color suits where it is placed. On my preliminary task I used very few colours and just placed things any where whereas on my full product I have thought about what colour to put where and also made somethings stand out more than others.
Overall from my preliminary task to my full task I have used/ learnt many things. This has really helped as I like my full product now. Also my understanding of many things has become greater. At the start of the preliminary task I didn't know much about editing and colours ect and now I have a finished product which looks rather professional.
